Are you really saving when buying things on sale?
In the next few weeks, we will be bombarded with sales at every store imaginable. Since many people wait until the last minute to buy Christmas gifts, some of the best sales actually occur the week before Christmas. However, just because something is on sale does not make it a bargain! That may sound counterintuitive, but are you really saving money if you are buying something on sale? The answer to that is that all depends upon the situation. If you are buying something that you definitely NEED, then you may be saving some money. However, if you are buying something just because it is on sale, but you really DO NOT need it, then you are still spending money!
So, be careful not to get lulled into the mindset that you are saving money when buying things ‘on sale’ because you are only saving if you need the item in the first place.

Great point…less is definitely more! AND shopping can be an addiction! If I need it…the best price possible is the only price to pay…if I want it…again best price possible or DO I REALLY want or need it…I think: do I want to store, clean, care for, look at, use…WHATEVER it is…before letting go of my bucks…HOLD ‘EM close is my motto!…There’s a deception going on…THEY(retailers) WANT MY money and WILL do what they will to try to TAKE IT FROM ME! lol! Seriously, we shouldn’t be beguiled into worldly thinking of the “having it all mentality”…LESS is More! AND hey, what twinkles our eyes can cause all manner of covetousness this time of year…Thanks for the reminder!
My husband and I have put our selves on a budget recently. We are working the debt-snowball. To this end, we have taken a HARD look at the things we purchase. No more mindless, last minute purchases. We go with a list, stick to the list and use cash. Then we are definitely limited in our purchase power.
We have had to evaluate the needs verses the wants. Sometimes it is a hard call, but we stick to our guns and “put the item back”. It is a state of mind! We are definitely happier now. And, we are happy with the message we are teaching our children.
I agree 100%!!
When I see all the things I don’t need in sales circulars and ads that are “on sale”, I think to myself, “Look at all the money I’m saving by not buying any of those things at all!”
