Tightwad Tuesday-Money Saving Tips From the Kitchen

February17

This week’s Tightwad Tuesday topic really got me to thinking about the best way to save money in the kitchen.  I started looking around at all my cooking utensils, kitchen gadgets, and then my eyes fell on my never ending pile of cookbooks and cooking magazines.

I never realized how quickly those books and magazines can multiply.  Let’s face it, they can get pretty expensive.  My money saving tip to you this week is this: don’t purchase any more cookbooks or magazines until you utilize all the ones that you already have on hand. Once you have done that, then begin using the Internet as your cookbook.  You can find all kinds of recipe sites that are free to use that will not cost you a dime!

Here are a few of my favorite recipe sites.

Once you are done using your cookbooks, pass them on to friends and family to help organize and declutter your kitchen as well.

What is your favorite recipe site?  Do you have some money saving tips to share from your kitchen?  Let me hear them.  I am always looking for ways to better organize my kitchen.

I like to visit the official Rival Crock-Pot site (http://www.crock-pot.com) for slow cooker recipes.

If you only use one or two recipes out of a cookbook or want to get a feel for what is in the cookbook (to figure out IF you will use it) borrow them from the library! Free and your tax dollars have already paid for it. I also pick mine up from garage/estate sales (I got a 1940’s one that I have been looking for for 50cents last fall! Sell for $40 on ebay!)

I go to thrift stores. I love the old cook books that I find there. Usually get them for $.50-$.25 a book. Also, if your library has a book store that donated books are sold thru it is a great way to get cook books and help the library at the same time.

I have a friend who buys cooking/food related magazines from the library for the recipes. They are super cheap and she recycles them after she clips the stuff she wants.
