WFMW: Freeze your paintbrushes

July28

This is a trick I’ve used for many years. If you’re like me, you seldom have the opportunity to completely finish a painting job. When I’m forced to stop in the middle of  a project, I wrap my brush or roller in plastic wrap and store them in the fridge or freezer. I put them in the fridge if I’ll be getting back to the job within 24 hours. Otherwise, I stick them in the freezer. Thaw them out and they’re ready to go!

Do be sure and allow for thaw time. Though I’ve found a blow dryer can do wonders to speed things up.

I put my brushes and rollers in the fridge all the time, but for longer than 24 hours even….in fact my family always teases me about it! I think you can find 2 paint rollers in my fridge right now! :) They have probably dried by now though!!! I will have to start putting them in the freezer….thanks for the tip!

Molly says: Well….I’ve had some in the fridge for about a week and a half, myself! Just moved them to the freezer last night. “Technically”, I think the fridge is supposed to be for “short term”. I was trying to give you the “right” method, not the “what I actually do” method! lol

Very timely – we’re getting ready to start a few big painting jobs around here and that was on thing I was concerned with!

I LOVE that tent! I wish I had little ones to make it for. I don’t think my almost 14 year old son would go for it. He would have in his younger years though!!!!

Can this be done for staining projects? I need to stain my bedroom furniture & know I won’t be getting it done in one day! :) Would love to stick the brush in the fridge/freezer.
    Thanks!

Molly says: You know, I honestly don’t know. If you try it be sure and let me know!
