The Cutest Shower Gift Ever!

May18

I have no clue what it is with me and baby stuff this week. Maybe it’s because my neighbor just had a baby and I am in total baby love right now!

Anyway, I was reading a few of my favorite blogs and came across this!

This diaper cake is adorable! Not only would it make a wonderful centerpiece for a baby shower, but it is simple and easy to put together. I am thinking of making one myself for the next baby shower I attend.

I just made one of these for a shower this weekend! Funny thing – we were told the baby was a girl so I decorated all in pink. The mom had another ultrasound yesterday and…it’s a BOY! Looks like I get to go shopping for blue now! ;)

I love to sew two coordinating flannel pieces right sides together, then you turn it right side out and sew a decorative stitch all the way around about two inches inside. I use yard long pieces so it’s soft like a receiving blanket but bigger so they can use them much longer. My 3 yr old still uses hers. Takes 30 minutes and about $10 and makes a beautiful gift. I have done the same thing with smaller pieces to make burp rages as well. I have pictures I can send if you want to see.

I made one of these for my first granddaughter…..instead of tiny baby “things” to decorate I used baby booties and rattles and pacifiers. It was a huge hit and they used it as a center piece for the table.

I was talking with a friend last night who was heading home to make one of these for her expecting daughter’s baby shower. They are farmers and she’d found a little John Deere tractor to put on the top. I thought that was a cute idea.

I love the ideas of actual baby goodies on the sides as well.

The baby (girl) gift that I have gotten the most raves over is a crocheted baby dress I make. I use soft yarn and fun buttons for the front. I try to make it elegant so it is a church dress, but cute enough for any kind of outing. For boys I make crocheted baby booties and a crocheted, stuffed animal.

My idea is on the whole shower. My sister was expecting her first child. She lives in New Mexico and I in Wisconsin. So a shower was out of the question. I decided to do a shower in a box (s). We actually invited all the guests to my mothers house and told them not to wrap the gift, but bring gift wrap.(wrapping was one of the games quickest and best wrapper)We played the games had the cake, sent a smaller version of the cake along in the box also. This was 25 years ago video cameras just came out. so it was taped and sent in the boxes also. I think there were 3 boxes. They all had numbers to open each one in sequence. with directions.Box one had the table cloth, plates, cups, balloons, cake, ect… She was given instruction to set up the decorations. Box 2 and 3 contained the gifts, she was told to spread them around her. Then put in the movie and watch the shower while she opened the gifts. She called me crying claiming it was the best shower anyone could have . She still remembers it to this day. I was a lot of fun to put together also.
