Weekend Wonder — What a great idea!
Recently a reader left a comment on a Weekend Wonder post about her special yard sale find. It sounded like such a great re-purposing idea that I wanted to see pictures. April was kind enough to share those—so here are the pictures, as well as her original comments.
April also suggests that an old suitcase like this would be nice to use in a guest room to hold rolled towels, soaps, etc. for guests. Love that idea too! I’ll be keeping my eyes open for little old suitcases now at yard sales and thrift shops.
A couple of weeks ago, I bought an old tweed-looking suitcase at a yard sale for 50 cents. I bought it because I loved the beautiful cream and red toile fabric lining.
I set it on my dresser, open. Then I placed my lamp, my baskets of hair things and toiletries and a jewelry box inside of it. The top had a large draping pocket, and I clipped my octopus hair clips onto that and then draped some old embroidered hankies out of it. The bottom section had a pocket along the back wall. I stood my lotions and body sprays up in it.
I love how it looks, and it keeps my little ones from reaching up and playing in my jewelry box. I have a low dresser and the suitcase just added a six inch wall around all my things. It looks so pretty when the lamp is turned on and it illuminates the toile lining with a soft glow.

You’re welcome!
That’s a great idea! If you come across several of these you could stack them to make a coffee table or end table
