Flavored Ice Cubes–A Frugal Little Luxury

June23

This is something I’ve really been enjoying these dog days of summer. I’ll freeze a tray of lemonade ice cubes (by the way, the frozen concentrate from Aldi’s makes a cheap, good lemonade) and then drop a couple of cubes in my iced tea or cold water, for just the right little bit of lemony taste.

I recently started freezing mint leaves in ice cubes too, and this is my new favorite. I absolutely love how refreshing this tastes in water, and in iced tea.

And here’s where the frugal comes in. I scavenge what’s left of fruit – the slightly squishy blueberries, or a strawberry with the soft spots cut out, or zest from lemon peels, and put those in ice cubes too. It looks pretty (or at least interesting) and really perks up those 8 glasses of water a day!

Great idea, I love to mix tea and lemonade together. It would be easier with lemonade ice cubes!

I recently got a lemon balm plant off craigslist and was trying to figure out some more uses for it… I will be putting some leaves in my next ice cubes…
    Thanks for a refreshing idea.
