Weekend Wonders (before and after!)
A few months ago I found this chair at a garage sale for $4.00. It needed some TLC and I wasn’t 100% sure where I would put it, but it fit me perfectly (my feet reached the floor comfortably!) and I knew I would love it once I made it pretty.

Found at a garage sale for $4
Well, this weekend my husband and I decided to make a trip to IKEA for some inexpensive shelving for our daughter’s play kitchen area. When we were about to check out, we went to their “As Is” aisle to check out what deals might be available there. Did you know IKEA had such an aisle? I do now, and you can bet I’ll check it out every time I go!
In an out-of-the-way bin that had been pushed off to one side of the aisle, we found a black gingham slipcover (that we hoped would fit my sad little garage sale chair) for only $5.00! We took it home, washed it and tried it on the chair and this was the beautiful transformation:

Gingham is so cheerful, even when black!
It now sits, lovingly situated as my “read aloud chair” in our home schoolroom!
I am so thrilled with it! Now my schoolroom is finally looking like part of our home rather than an eyesore. And it only cost me a grand total of $9.00!
Next on my list: Paint my school bookshelves white to brighten the room even more. I can’t wait!
What deals did you find this weekend?

What a huge difference!
I love your choice in fabric! You’ll be able to add different color throw pillows for it…depending on the season! Red at Christmastime, Yellow on a gray day, green in March, etc.!

waaah, I’m jealous of that slipcover! I’ve admired that black/white gingham in the IKEA catalog. I love IKEA stuff . . . and I love black and white —like Michelle said in her comment, it’s so versatile and easy to accesorize for a lot of different looks.
Thanks, Michelle and Eleanor!
I think you are right, black can go with so many different colors, so I’ll have lots of fun with my children deciding which pillows and throws to put on the chair each season!
I’ve seen that gingham slipcover in their catalog also, and just kept thinking to myself, “Oh, one day I’ll hopefully find that one at a garage sale….” No garage sale needed, just the IKEA “As-Is” aisle! I might make it a regular habit to go there and look on that aisle more often.
I had a list of several things I was looking for, and God provided almost all of them! I got an extra oar for our canoe, (bought off Craigslist) for $1, a pair of water shoes for my son for 50 cents, “man art” for my husband’s office – 3 pictures for $8 total, 3 pots for the flowers we’re growing from seed – $1, and the one that really blessed me, a drum set for $50! We had been wanting to get my son one for his birthday, but even the lower level used ones on Craigslist were $200-300. God made a way! My daughter even found an unopened latch hook rug kit that she’d been eyeing, for $2.
Molly! What a transformation! What a perfect fit! It looks great!
Thanks, Alise! What “perfect fit” treasures have you found lately?
GREAT FIND on both items! I love the black and white, sophisticated and modern yet cozy and warm! And all for ONLY $9!!!! WTG once again on a job well done! ~Brandi~
