I think it works for me!

May19

This is something new we’re trying with the kids’ linens–rolling the towels instead of folding them. It seems that more towels fit on the shelves, and the shelves stay neater with no stacks of towels toppling over when someone pulls out their favorite. PLUS it’s easier for the kids to roll the towels than to fold them neatly when it’s time to put the laundry away. Does anyone else do this? How does it work for you?

My mom did this we I was a kid and now I do it. We live in a very small house and it works great. If I didn’t roll my towels I couldn’t fit all my towels in the house.

    What a simple solution. Thanks!

Since we have limited towel storage space I think that this might be a good solution.

Rolling towels does work so much better. You can pull a towel out of the pile without the whole pile toppling over.

I have got to give this a try! My towel cabinet is so tiny and I can never get stuff to fit in there so the doors will close. I can’t wait to see if it works for me too =)

I have done that with my kitchen towels for years. It really does conserve space.

This is how the military pack their bags, too! Try it when traveling some time. MUCH more can fit in the suitcase, and things don’t get wrinkled!!

We do this in our home. It works well and Ive even put rolled towels in a large basket by the tub. Its great for washcloths too. We put them by the sink for little ones.

We remodeled out bathroom recently and found that we didn’t didn’t really have the sq footage for a linen closet… the next closest option was down the hall and a set of steps. So… our solution was to head to pottery barn outlet, we bought a huge dark wicker basket that we filled with beautiful white fluffy towels. I really like having just white towels… I think it looks elegant and helps things look organized. When people ask to see our remodel the towel baskets is always one of the first things that they mention. Our basket holds about 12 or so towels … it is such an easy solution that we have never regreted trading the linen closet for more floor space.

One other comment, I’ve taught my children and husband how to roll the towels too and place them in the basket with the smooth folded sides up so that they look neater. We also bring the basket down when it’s time to do laundry and they go straight from the dryer into the basket then the basket gets carried up to the bathroom … done… try it… no closet to organize or keep clean.

We have been doing this for years because we have very limited cupboard space in the bathroom. Rolling the towels does enable us to fit more towels in the limited space. It is a great idea.

I’m going to try this! It’s gotta be better than what we’re doing now.

We have been doing this at our house for a number of years. It definitely allows us to store more in the limited amount of space that we have. For washcloths and hand towels, we roll them up and place them in baskets for easier storage. Thanks for sharing!

In the past, when we had a smaller family, I would roll them. I would fold them to a rectangle then place a washcloth inside. Then I would roll them. The boys had all they needed. I do this for clothes too. I fold shirt, pants, “unders” and socks all together. the pants or shirt hold them all. I have also rolled ithem for travel.
NOW, we have so many children I could not keep up wth the laundry if we each got a towel when ever we wanted. So I have a hook for each child in the children’s bathroom. Bath night is Tue, Thurs, and Satruday. The towels are used on those days, then washed on Friday. Between they are hung up on their hook. Washclothes are tossed into a basket in the closet and you get a new one every day. Hand towels are the same, tossed into a different basket.
Hope this isnt too off topic.

I’ve done this with sheets and towels and it works great! We used to live a a house with zero storage in the bathroom so I rolled the towels and stuck them on end in a cylyndrical basket-cute and useful! Rolling t shirts is easy too!

When I had a small bathroom with a little wicker shelf, I rolled them. Now that I have a linen closet in the hall, I fold. When the littles are able to help more with laundry, I may switch back if it proves easier for them.

I know this is an old post, but I laughed when I read it just now. I do this with my kitchen linens (stored in a drawer!) I NEVER thought about doing it in the linen closets! I may well give it a try – thanks for the visual idea of it. :)

  23. On June 8th, 2010 at 5:44 pm 23 Joy J Says:

I do this with nearly everything. Towels, wash cloths, hand towels, tee shirts. It really does help the littles not make such an unintentional mess of the closets and drawers. Another place to use this trick is when shopping at yard sales or at thrift stores and they have the fill a bag sales. Roll the clothes when putting them in the bag and you can get so much more in the bags. Every little bit helps.

I do this with towels, but also with Dh’s underwear. No more digging for the best pair and messing up the drawer!
I also do this with my pants and shorts.
